Polk Bros. Foundation welcomes new grants manager

Nestor Avendano headshotPolk Bros. Foundation welcomed Nestor Avendaño to the Foundation this week as its grants manager. He will oversee the processes and procedures of grantmaking for the Foundation, and act as a key point of contact for the Foundation’s grant applicants and recipients.

Nestor comes to the Foundation from the Chicago Community Trust, where he served as grants manager and was instrumental in the introduction of a new grants management process and system. He brings over 10 years of experience across public and private sectors to his role, including many years with the City and County of San Francisco as grants administrator in the Department of Economic and Workforce Development. He also sits on the associate board of Sarah’s Inn, a domestic violence agency serving Chicago and 22 surrounding West Cook County suburban communities.

“Nestor is joining the Foundation at an exciting time, as we modernize our grantmaking process and introduce a new online grants portal. He has a track record of success working in a range of grantmaking systems and providing training to grant recipients, and he will be an excellent addition to our team here,” said Gillian Darlow, Polk Bros. Foundation CEO.
