Polk Bros. Foundation is pleased to announce that Camielle Taylor has joined the staff as program officer on the Fostering a Participatory, Multiracial Democracy team and will participate as a collaborative partner with the full grantmaking staff.
“I have a passion to work toward systemic change, particularly by building pathways that enable historically marginalized young people to thrive in sustained ways,” said Camielle. “At Polk Bros. Foundation, I am excited to bring together my personal convictions and professional experiences in collaboration with this committed team. Our young people hold extraordinary power that is too often untapped, and I look forward to supporting our partners as we uplift and amplify essential voices in our community.”
A first-generation American with a career-long commitment to educational equity and youth empowerment, Camielle was most recently managing director of programs at LINK Unlimited Scholars where she successfully restructured leadership development and college counseling programs to better serve student needs and create lasting impact. Before then, she served in several roles ranging from Spanish instructor, college counselor, and dean of college and 12th grade at Butler College Prep, a campus of Noble Schools, to instructional coach at Teach For America Philadelphia Summer Institute and as an educational consultant. Camielle’s experience in education and youth development in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Chicago has honed her expertise in creating equitable access to education, college success and civic leadership. She is a proud alumna of Surge Institute Chicago and Teach For America Baltimore, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She holds a B.S. in education and social policy & Spanish from Northwestern University and an M.S. in secondary education from Johns Hopkins University.
“Camielle’s deep understanding of young people and the power they hold when given the space to advocate for themselves and their communities will bring an essential perspective and focus to all of our new goals, especially our Fostering a Participatory, Multiracial Democracy strategy,” said Polk Bros. Foundation CEO Gillian Darlow. “I’m delighted to welcome her to the team.”
