Spotlight on DePaul University’s Legal Resource Project

Small and mid-size nonprofit organizations that serve immigrants and refugees can often struggle to keep up with evolving immigration laws and policies. DePaul University’s Legal Resource Project for immigration service providers offers a series of educational workshops and ongoing consultation for nonprofit staff from 25 organizations, provides direct representation in a limited number of complex cases, and links additional DePaul University resources to these groups to enhance programs.

The Legal Resource Project notes the administrative challenges that impede service delivery for many of these organizations and leads a series of educational seminars and coaching to help groups develop business and financial plans, explore new program evaluation methods and learn change management strategies. Strengthening these organizations and deepening their legal expertise helps immigrants and refugees understand their rights and access a range of services to ease their transitions to a new community.
